    Advanced Myofascial Techniques

Advanced Myofascial Techniques are a unique blend of tools based on years of experience and recent research. Deep, direct touch and subtle, receptive touch is interwoven with somatic bodywork and used to address complaints such as movement dysfunctions and pain (e.g. headaches, joint pain, sciatica, etc.). This work is extremely useful in profound ways: by increasing options for movement and by refining awareness so that the body can be felt in new and enhanced ways. As a result, pain, athletic performance and well-being, all improve. The emphasises of this work centers on the human interaction between practitioner and client so the WHOLE person is seen, heard and helped.

    Structural Integration

Structural Integration is a bodywork treatment of fascia and deep tissue combined with movement. It is designed to restore structural balance, ease and fluidity of movement, and a feeling of “comfortably fitting in your own skin”.

You can come for one-off sessions, but the best, most permanent and progressive results are achieved with a series of sessions. On each visit we address a different part of the body.

Ideally, there is a break of one to two weeks between sessions for you to integrate the treatments: breaking old habits and exploring new movements and postural patterns instead. There is the option to get homework exercises that will support your process.

    Active Fascial Release

Active Fascial Release is a new approach to bodywork: you actively participate in your own treatment by being upright and moving while I work your soft tissues to identify, treat and re-educate whole body movement patterns.

Active Fascial Release gives you the opportunity to be engaged in your own treatment, helping you understand and thereby enhance the treatment outcome and ultimately educate yourself about the wonderful interrelationships through your whole body.

    Can I help you?

I have been working with people to improve their movement, health and well being and provide support during rehabilitation for over 15 years and have had success treating:

    • Back pain
    • Sciatica
    • Shoulder and neck problems
    • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
    • Headaches and migraines
    • Jaw tension and TMJ disorders
    • Plantar fasciitis
    • Joint stiffness
    • Surgery and injury scars
    • General tension and strains

My work directly addresses physical symptoms, postural or performance concerns, or general self care. It can provide:

    • Freedom from persistent aches and pains
    • Injury prevention and speedier injury recovery
    • Relief from stress and tension
    • Freedom of movement
    • Improved alignment and balance
    • Increased body awareness
    • Relaxation and rejuvenation
    • Improved breathing and performance

A thorough understanding of whole body posture and movement patterns guides me in the techniques I use to meet YOUR needs.

Each session starts with a check-in that includes the observation of your movement patterns through the whole body, not just focusing on the ‘problem or pain spot’. Injury, trauma, posture or movement habits can affect the body in unique ways and the knock on effects can often be felt some distance away as discomfort or pain.

While I work on your fascia you will be asked to participate through movements of your body. Most of the work is completed on a treatment table, however with Active Fascial Release work you will be upright and moving as I work your soft tissues.

If movement training is called for we will identify and develop appropriate exercises together that help support the work from the session and which you can fit into your daily life.

Unlike massage, you will be getting up and moving around, so many clients wear gym shorts, undergarments, sports bras for women, etc.

Please choose clothing that leaves the back, legs, arms and other areas available for work but comfort is the primary consideration.

If you prefer, treatments can be done through clothes.

Movement re-education can be part of the session - wear comfortable clothes for that.

Movement advice and coaching can be part of the session to help integrate the effects of the bodywork into daily life outside the bodywork sessions. Movements may relate to daily activities, sports, dance or other movement modalities you follow with emphasis being given to functional movements.

Homework exercises can be provided to help increase your awareness and any changes you are trying to achieve.
